Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling Explains How No Dedicated Server is Not Crazy

Once the internet got hold of news that there will not be any dedicated server for Infinity Ward’s ‘Modern Warfare 2′ for PC, fans storms out with petitions, raging across the internet, and of course the usual bashing of the company. Among the chaos, Infinity Ward’s Rob Bowling (aka fourzerotwo) tries to explain how no dedicated server is not such a bad idea to the angry mob and also tops it off by listing out the benefits of using their IWNet (just read some of the comments..ouch).

On his blog he talks about how every users can jump right into IWNet without players learning how to maintain a dedicated server on their own.

He also list out the positive side to this such as:

* Matchmaking & Smoother Gameplay
* Playlists and Private Matches
* Party System and Friendslist
* Cheat / Hack Free Games

Bowling added:

All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch.

I wonder if this will settle the community down till the game launches on November 10th. – Gossipgamers

    Robert Bowling is a Xbox 360 fanboy, and he would say that as matchmaking is the only format he’s ever known. Anyway its just marketing BS from a comoany that knows its iw.net is a failed system.

    No crap it won’t settle down the pc community. PC gamers have too much evidence on their side to keep on bashing bowling until the game is released. PC gamers want their dedicated servers, so why doesn’t he just tell IW to make it that way and silence the whiners…

    He mentions matchmaking as a good thing… How pathetic is that. If I wanted IW to choose who I’m going to play against I would buy the crappy console version of the game. Cheating and hacking??? Most of the dedicated servers I played on were already well equiped at dealing with cheaters. This is going to destroy the open community experience of the game. This is very disappointing and I’m not going to buy this game. COD was one of my favorite games for the pc, but now that IW has pulled this, they can kiss my ass!

    What we would like to know is, what happened to Infinity Ward’s Studio Head Grant Collier after the release of CoD4?

    When you watch the video below there is an overwhelming sense of pride in what the development team has done with regard to dedicated servers and specifically the ability to create mods for your own servers. He discusses how they consulted the internet based communities for CoD1 & 2, clan based web sites but now they want to completely shut out the people who helped them make CoD4 one of the greatest game releases of all time.

    What has gone wrong at Infinity Ward? are we about to witness another split between Infinity Ward and Activision similar to years back?….something has clearly gone wrong with the management at IW and or Activision.

    Everyone needs to watch this entire video.
