NVIDIA intros RealityServer platform for cloud computing

NVIDIA has teamed with a rendering technology company, mental images, to introduce the RealityServer platform for cloud computing. The technology integrates GPUs and software capable of supporting 3D web-based applications for consumers and enterprise users.

The platform utilizes NVIDIA’s Tesla RS systems which support the company’s CUDA parallel-computing architecture. Each Tesla processor is powered by 240 processing cores, while the service-level configuration combines 100 or more GPUs for thousands of concurrent users.

The RealityServer software, developed by mental images, allows users to interact remotely with 3D models and environments. The platform supports advanced features such as customizable lighting conditions and complex models. Potential applications include interactive shopping portals, engineering collaboration, architectural model presentation to clients, and more.

Support for iray rendering is claimed to allow users to create life-like images from a simple and intuitive interface. Renderings combine a variety of elements such as play of light, shadows and reflections. iray processing can be integrated directly into RealityServer applications.

The NVIDIA RealityServer platform will be available on November 30th. Customers can purchase Tesla RS configurations with as few as eight GPUs, with pricing and additional information available directly from the company. – Electronista
