PETACH TIKVA, Israel, — Tadiran Telecom, a leading global IP business telephony and communications supplier, has been selected to provide the first Softswitch communications solution in the history of the Indian Railways, the largest and busiest rail network in the world.
A part of an overall communications system modernization plan, South Central Railway (SCR) selected the new Sea Softswitch, which meets all of SCR’s first-time requirements for redundancy, fault tolerance, central administration and billing. This large project includes the important Hubli and Vijayawada divisions, and spans 85 stations over 200 kilometers.
For BPL Telecom, a leading electronics and telecommunications group and one of Tadiran’s business partners in India, it was clear that the only solution was the Sea Softswitch. A cluster of three IP-based Sea Softswitch servers are at the core of the project, managing the entire communications system. Located in three geographically dispersed sites, each Sea Softswitch server provides redundancy and fault tolerance for the other servers.
“Tadiran is involved in many railway projects around the world and we understand the specific communication needs of this market segment,” said Zeev Aviv, Acting president and CEO of Tadiran Telecom. “As a leading player in Indian Railways we are especially happy to be the first to introduce a VoIP and Softswitch-based solution to this market. We will continue to bring cutting edge and innovative technologies to this industry and are confident that our focus on railways will lead to many more projects of this kind in the future.”
The final phase of installation has been completed and this project is now in the process of being deployed. The project incorporates other Tadiran systems, including a FlexiCom 5000 system which functions as the main hub for trunks and connects to the other IP systems, ten IPx 500 units deployed at larger stations, and FXS/SIP boxes located in the smaller stations. All these systems are maintained by a cluster of geographically dispersed, yet fully redundant, Sea Softswitch servers allowing for highly dependable, cost-effective communications.
Tadiran Telecom’s network solutions have been successfully deployed in scores of national rail projects worldwide. In Ireland, the company has provided solutions for over 200 systems and sites at Irish Rail, making it one of the largest private QSIG telephony networks in Europe. In the Minsk Metro in Russia, which transports about a million passengers a day, Tadiran Telecom’s communication platform delivers reliable communications under extreme weather conditions. Tadiran Telecom’s advanced communications solutions also played a large part in the Beijing Subway expansion plan for the 2008 Olympic Games, as part of an overall, unprecedented investment in transportation to prepare for the influx of visitors. – adiran Telecom
