USAID grants GTLI $387,000 for clean water project in Ethiopia

The US Agency for International Development grants Global Team for Local Initiatives (GTLI), a Bainbridge, WA, nonprofit group, $387,000 to create clean water and sanitation programs in Ethiopia.
The program is said to be aimed at aiding the Hamar tribe in southern Ethiopia and will deliver hygiene training, wells and cisterns to 3,000 people.
“Many women travel up to three hours one way during the wet season and up to six hours in the dry season to fetch their daily allotment. Girls are not allowed to attend school as they are required to fetch water and tend younger children,” said Lori Sweningson, GTLI founder and country director, in a statement.
