I-mate continues to survive, says CEO

326956I-mate has not disappeared, claims the smartphone maker’s CEO, Jim Morrison. The company recently shut down its Dubai offices, also disappearing from phone contact. Prior to the closure, workers had been forced to take unpaid leaves; Morrison elaborates by saying that 30 out of 40 workers have been laid off.

The reason is said to be a late August discovery of “major fraud†within i-mate, committed by someone only described as a senior employee. Though police are investigating, the company been unable to pay its workers on time, and it has had to postpone launching a new line of phones. Morrison insists that “everything about i-mate will continue,†including the new products, though it is unknown if and when the Dubai office will reopen. The company is pursuing more funding to continue its ventures. – Electronista
