Desse, September 23 (WIC) – The Serinka Agriculture Research Center in the Amhara state said it is conducting 149 various research activities.
Center Director, Fiseha Worede told WIC that research activities are being carried out on 76 new and 73 existing agricultural technologies suitable for all climatic conditions.
The research is being carried out in 11 research centers in north and south Wollo zones as well as Oromo nationality zone, the director said.
He indicated that improving the species of 123 crop and 12 animal varieties as well as five forest and nine soil and water researches are among the research activities underway.
According to the director, the research activities which would last from one to six years would help discover fast-growing, high yielding, drought and disease-resistant crop varieties.
The center released 143 quintals of teff, sorghum, wheat, chick-pea, sesame and pea nut varieties last production season, he indicated.
The research activities would have due contribution towards assisting the crop, animal and natural resources development activities with improved technologies, he added.
