Hannaford to Build Near GlobalFoundries Site

Hannaford Supermarkets plans to build a store in Malta, N.Y., close to where a $4.2 billion computer chip plant will be built.
Company officials said today the are talking to the town about a 35,000-square-foot store at the west end of Malta Mall, which is located at Round Lake Road and Chango Drive.
Hannaford would develop the energy-efficient store in cooperation with the mall owner, Country Club Acres. The store, which is expected to open in 2011, would employ about 100 people.
A Hannaford competitor, Price Chopper, already has a store in Malta. Price Chopper is owned by the Golub Corp. in Rotterdam.
Hannaford is based in Scarborough, Maine.
The $4.2 billion chip fab is being built by GlobalFoundries at the Luther Forest Technology Campus. The chip fab is expected to open in 2012 and create 1,400 direct jobs and thousands more spinoff jobs.
