Actor Hugh Jackman uses Twitter for charity contest

Twitter has become a popular tool to use while socializing with friends, family and co-workers .It allows people to update their activities through the exchange of quick and frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Actor/Producer Hugh Jackman ,known for his role in X-Men as Wolverine sure let us know what he was doing he Tweeted Oprah on Friday afternoon, writing, “Hey Oprah, looking forward to seeing you next Friday!” Jackman is referring to a scheduled appearance he has on Oprah’s live show on Friday, May 1, 2009.

Jackman not only uses his twitter to keep in touch with his friends but he also has put it to good use by organizing a Twitter charity contest asking his fans to send him a convincing letter of a 140 characters or less why he should choose their organization or their favorite non-profit organizations. In return he has promised he would donate $100,000 to the winner. Almost 2 weeks after posting his Twitter charity contest the Actor revealed the winners on the Ryan Seacrest radio show on Friday April 24. Instead of one winner Jackman decided to choose two Charities and will be donating $50,000 to both Water and Operation of Hope .

Founded in 2006, charity: Water has helped fund 1,247 projects, in 14 countries bringing clean, safe water to 669,045 people. In Ethiopia only 22.5% of the population has access to clean water. This shortage has many adverse consequences. One Twitter sent a message to Hugh stating-“Half of all schools in the WORLD lack water these kids in Ethiopia are cheering for you”: and linked a photo of the students in Ethiopia holding up signs addressed to the actor , one said, “Dear Hugh, without clean water this is NO LIFE.”

Jackman is Australian born Actor/Producer , he is married to wife Deborra-Lee Furness and has two adopted children. Jackman was appointed a goodwill ambassador of Seoul, South Korea on April 10, 2009. He also supports The Art of Elysium, the MPTV Fund Foundation and he and his wife are patrons of the Bone Marrow Donor Institute in Australia.

Jackman produced and stars in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, due to be released in theatres this Friday May 1, 2009.
