Meles lays cornerstone for construction of university in Wolkite Town

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia urged the public and investors in Gurage Zone, South Ethiopia Peoples’ State to exert concerted efforts with a view to accelerating development in the area. Meles on Sunday laid a cornerstone for construction of a university in Wolkite Town.

The cornerstone was laid at the end of a two-day development and good governance conference held under the theme ” unity of Gurage for accelerated development”.

Speaking at the occasion, the premier said coordination among the public and investors is crucial to ensure sustainable development in the zone.

Responding to questions forwarded by participants of the conference on problems of infrastructure development, Meles said efforts would be exerted to fulfill infrastructural development.

The government will keep on providing the necessary support to strengthen ongoing development activities in the zone, he added.

State Chief , Sheferaw Shigute said ongoing efforts to expand infrastructural development would be intensified at all levels.

The conference attracted about 3000 participants including senior government officials, ambassadors, investors and natives of the zone.
